6th Grade Literature Circles

In 6th grade reading, we've begun our literature circles. During this time, students are reading a variety of books based on a character being different. Each book deals with situations characters must face and while reading these books in groups of 3-5, students are working on a the guiding question, "What does it mean to ______________(character's name) to be different?

Below is an example of the bookmark that must be turned in each discussion day in order for students to participate with the group.

1. Write two FAT discussion questions

2. Complete at least two of the items listed below. Be prepared to use the information to participate in your meeting, Please LABEL each task.

- questions about the text or to the author

- inferences made on the book

- unfamiliar vocabulary words

- illustration of an important scene

- favorite passages - advice to a character

- connections made - criticism

3. Complete a Summary on the back side of this bookmark. Your summary should be WICS and can include reactions/responses. Please write at least 5 sentences.

4. Vocabulary: Find 2 challenging words, define each word, and list the strategy used to define each word
